Bat & Bottle specialises in importing unique Italian wines made by small, independent growers.
Founder Ben Robson is passionate about Italian wine and culture. He says: “We have developed a taste for wines made by producers who cherish the history and traditions of their hills and valleys.”
Ben founded Bat & Bottle in Uppingham, Rutland, in May 1994 with his wife Emma, and his knowledge of his chosen field is hard-won, extensive and has its roots in genuine passion for the subject.
“The Italian growers we have got to know are true individuals who make wines with a sense of place and unique character,” he says. “We make the utmost effort to visit and be in regular touch with these great personalities, for our own pleasure as much as for quality control.”
Bat & Bottle’s exceptional reputation has been earned through the consistent quality of the wines it has selected over the years alongside high levels of personal service. Ben and Emma have become friends with many of their customers – that’s the sort of business they run
Ben sums it up: “We are uncompromising importers of wine and buy wines that we fall in love with. We do not buy wines for our customers, we find customers for our wines.”
Ben and Emma spend a reasonable amount of time scouring Italy for wines so are not always at the warehouse, so it is best to call or text before visiting.
